Perfect 10

29 Mar

Josselyn is 10 months old today.  I can hardly believe it.  Seriously.  This child’s babyhood has flown by faster than the other two combined.  Although she is still a little shrimp (only 18 lbs and 27-ish inches), she has a mind of her own.  She crawls where she wants to go, and she cries if she can’t (thereby ensuring that I will come and get her and bring her with me anyway!).  Smart cookie!  Bruce is favourite, although she will tolerate me when he is not around.  She loves to watch her sisters, but doesn’t like it when they come too close to her!  She sleeps well and is easy to put down;   as long as she has a piece of polyester batting (no cotton for this discerning tactile-ista) sandwiched between two other pieces of 100% cotton (Egyptian optional).  I have quilted her a simple 2 ft square lovey so we can stop dragging around her crib blankets everywhere we go.  She can pull herself up on her crib rails to reach it when I forget to take it out with her.  She holds it in two hands and buries her nose in it like it is a bouquet of flowers.  After breathing deeply a few times, she will either roll over with the cloth against her cheek, or puddle it in her lap and lay her face in it a la seated forward bend yoga pose!

It was around this age that Holly really became attached to Lamby, so I am not surprised to find myself mentally check-listing that I have the blanket whenever we leave the house.

Of course, it doesn’t help that any given day I never know if we are even going to be home for naps.  The poor child gets dragged everywhere!  Parks, libraries, shopping complexes, friends’ homes are all fair game for a morning or afternoon outing, and Joss is great about sleeping on the fly… or in a bed… those flies don’t always provide good spinal support!

I am unsure where she is going to sleep during our cross-country trek next week.  I am thinking she’ll probably end up spending her nights in the bathtub.  I figure as long as she has her blankie, and walls to contain her, we’ll be golden!

At least I am not concerned about food for her.  She loves everything.  Raw mushrooms, cooked asparagus, roasted red peppers, ham, chicken, pasta, bread, pancakes, peas, eggs, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, and bananas (so long as they are NOT cut up).  She has eaten lasagne, chili, veggie and ham fritatta, squash soup, scalloped potatoes, pizza, macaroni and cheese, Shepherd’s Pie, Shanghai casserole, ravioli, anything goes for this kid!!  Her favourite?  Frosted Mini-wheats in a bowl of milk.  Surprisingly, she rarely even spills.  I don’t even put a bib on her.  She might be the cleanest baby ever!  Either that or she is so hungry she can’t afford to drop even a single bite!!  I was worried at first when she refused to eat so many foods, but I think she just has a more savoury palate that Bronwyn and myself (who are prone to sweet foods).  And, of course, Holly will eat anything.  Unless Bronwyn says it’s yucky, then she won’t eat it either.  Luckily that is less of a problem now.

Well, baby, Happy Tenth Month-a-versary!  We love you!

Have blankie, will travel!
